Job Description

As an Advanced Data Storage Systems Field Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, integrating, and supporting data storage solutions, particularly Dell PowerScale (Isilon) systems. You will provide on-site and remote support, troubleshoot technical issues, and manage storage environments. The role requires client interaction, identifying opportunities for upselling and cross-selling, and delivering excellent customer service, which includes White Glove Service. You will collaborate with clients, ensure services meet SLAs, and maintain clear documentation.
Must have:
  • IT experience in Media & Entertainment (4-6 years)
  • Experience with Dell/EMC Isilon/PowerScale storage systems
  • Proficiency with block-level & clustered NAS storage
  • Experience with fiber & Ethernet switch technology
  • Experience supporting Video Editors/Animation/Graphics Departments
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve collaborative storage issues
  • Proficiency using CLI, Mac/Win/Linux platforms
  • Competence with SSH and network monitoring tools
  • Strong troubleshooting skills
Good to have:
  • Expertise with Quantum, OpenDrives, or similar storage systems
  • Proficiency in Visio/Lucid/Omnigraffle/CAD drawing tools
  • Experience configuring cloud storage and workflows
  • Practical experience with Media Production technologies
  • Relevant Certifications (Cisco, Mellanox, Arista, Dell/EMC)
  • Experience with Directory Services (LDAP, Active Directory)
  • Windows or Linux (RHCSA) Certification
  • Additional storage, archive, or networking certifications

We are looking for an Advanced Data Storage Systems Field Engineer to join our Professional Services team in the Los Angeles area. In this role, you will bring specialized expertise in Dell PowerScale (Isilon) storage systems, providing installation, integration, and ongoing support for data storage solutions. You will work directly with customers, ensuring timely responses to support requests, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing complex storage environments. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in client-facing roles and can identify upselling and cross-selling opportunities to enhance the customer experience. You will be expected to offer White Glove Service and a customer-first attitude while delivering high-quality technical support.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide installation and integration services for storage, archive, compute, networking, and related systems across customer environments.
  • Ensure services are delivered within agreed SLAs, offering ongoing support and maintenance.
  • Perform on-site visits to customer locations, while having the flexibility to work remotely from your home office for certain duties.
  • Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell products and services, presenting solutions in a consultative, non-pushy manner.
  • Provide White Glove Service, ensuring a highly professional and customer-friendly approach.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues in collaborative storage environments, including asset permissions, block-level storage, fiber-channel, and IP networking issues.
  • Maintain excellent documentation and ensure clear communication with customers and team members.
  • Collaborate with clients to provide best-in-class technical support and troubleshooting.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 4-6 years of IT experience within the Media & Entertainment industry.
  • Experience deploying and supporting Dell/EMC Isilon/PowerScale storage systems.
  • Proficiency with block-level & clustered NAS storage systems (Isilon, Qumulo, NetApp, Quantum, Hitachi).
  • Proven track record in installing, configuring, and supporting fiber & Ethernet switch technology (Mellanox, Arista, Brocade, etc.).
  • Experience supporting Video Editors, Animation/Graphics Departments, Media Asset Management Systems.
  • Experience with upselling and cross-selling: Identifying opportunities to enhance or expand a client’s system and presenting solutions in a consultative, non-pushy manner.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve issues in collaborative storage environments, including asset permissions, block-level storage, fiber-channel, and IP networking issues.
  • Proficiency using CLI, and Mac/Win/Linux platforms.
  • Competence with SSH, network monitoring, and analysis tools.
  • Seasoned professional with strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Attention to detail in documentation, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for learning and expanding your expertise.
  • White Glove Service experience and a professional, customer-friendly attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexible hours, with willingness to work evenings and weekends if necessary.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise deploying and supporting Quantum, OpenDrives, or similar ethernet/fiber-based SAN, NAS, Backup/Archive storage systems.
  • Proficiency in Visio/Lucid/Omnigraffle/CAD drawing tools.
  • Experience configuring and utilizing cloud storage, cloud compute, and transcoding workflows.
  • Practical experience with Media Production and Post-production technologies (Avid Media Composer and ProTools experience a plus).
  • Relevant Certifications (e.g., Cisco, Mellanox, Arista, Dell/EMC, Quantum, Windows/Linux certifications like MCSA, MCSE, RHCT, RHCE).
  • Experience with Directory Services (LDAP, Active/Open Directory) implementation and administration.
  • Windows or Linux (RHCSA) Certification.
  • Additional storage, archive, or networking certifications.

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation range for this position: $150,000 - $175,000 annually.
